Gudawer Kalirai's images are shaped by the rhythms, moods, tensions and transient elements of familiar abstract forms and patterns. By manipulating the colour, light and shape of layered imagery, Gudawer has developed techniques that allow him to enhance his ideas and concepts. Compositions present forms and shapes that seek out unintentional symmetry and contradictions from random experience and interaction. The process is instinctive and organic, allowing each piece to dictate its own destiny.

Gudawer finds beauty in the natural transformation that occurs when shapes and structures are formed and is fascinated with the connections and parallels found between patterns in nature and those created with inanimate objects. Part of the creative process involves making complex patterns and shapes that are reflected in the natural world through experimentation with simple elemental forces and then utilizing this connection in the artwork. Self organised systems appear  everywhere and in an endeavour to understand how forms and shapes emerge, Gudawer attempts to explore the concept that chaos, order and pattern are built into nature’s most basic rules.

Since graduating from London College of Communication in 1995, Gudawer has been working closely with clients, designers and consultants creating large scale, bespoke commissioned artworks.
